Habitat:

Central and South America. Parts of Africa and other parts of the world. Forest floor, underground.

Diet:

Insects, grubs, and worms. They are carnivorous and will eat rodents.

Enemies:

Large snakes and other animals.

Facts:

They belong to the Family Amphisbaenidae which is known as the "Worm Lizards".

Amphisbaenians are limbless lizards.

There are over 135 species of Amphisbaenians.

They look like a giant earthworm.

They usually grow from 10-80 cm in length.

Some of the Amphisbaenians can move backwards as well as forwards. It can be hard to tell the front from the back.

They lead a burrowing lifestyle and spend much time underground. They are rarely seen.

Amphisbaenians make little use of vision.

Some scientists believe that they use hearing to locate their prey in their underground tunnels.

They look a lot like the Caecilian which is an amphibian, but they are not related.
